Group Five: Distant Stations

Andy has got his second EP out on Angry Rabbit. Some of the tracks date back to when I flatted with him*, so they have been gestating for a while, but Andy is nothing if not persistent.

And the results speak for themselves. Though often gritty, the tracks are bound together with elegance and clarity of vision. He has an excellent ear for sounds and has an instinct for combining samples I'd never think to use.

The other great thing is that I know these tracks so well they're kind of like old friends. My favourite is Photoeater, which reminds me of the first time we gigged together. Listening to this track brings back nostalgic memories of the cigarette-smoke dark of Bodega punctuated by green laser light and weird visuals, while the drums pounded away. Good times, good times.

* The eternal question that confronts our biographers is was he my flatmate, or my 'companion', a la Benjamin Britten and Peter Purves? The answer is he was my flatmate. And what of the steamy nights spent by Blair 'Diablo' Rhodes and myself in a Hong Kong hotel room? Again, no such steaminess occurred, aside from the natural humidity of the place. Look, stop bugging me!
