Lack of comet-ment

You may have heard the fuss about Comet McNaught, the 'Great Comet of 2007'. If you live in Wellington, you will most likely think the comet's existence complete hearsay, as cloudy skies have kept it hidden from us for nearly a week and a half. I was lucky enough to get a brief three minute glimpse of the thing on Friday. I saw it to be very elegant: small, but perfectly formed. To people in more favoured climes (amazingly, Levin), the comet is quite a sight.

The comet's small size seemed a little underwhelming, but then I saw this photo and realised that what we're missing is the clear, dark, and above all cloudless skies to be able to view it properly.

There you have it; another reason to hate Wellington.

Meanwhile, may I thoroughly recommend NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day.
