Non-wittiness revisited

Andy provided some feedback on my rant about the state of electronic music today. This tended to involve the use of lit theory conventions I'm not very well acquainted with, including Bloom's "anxiety of influence". I don't think my post was intended for the flamethrower of academic analysis, but I admit I brought it on myself by inviting feedback from a PhD student.

The most valuable thing I took from Andy's feedback was the idea that I had constructed and framed a 'narrative' around music technology (ie made a story from what I knew about this subject), and given this story the status of objective truth. However my knowledge on the subject is limited (I haven't undertaken any real research), and basically I'm talking out of my arse.

Of course, in every day life, most of our opinions aren't based on real research, but I guess you should know when your opinions are grain-of-salt stuff, and not fling them around like they're the Voice of God.

So, tonight I shall be dining on humble pie.
