In discussion with Janet it was decided that:
No matter how much you might agree with a particular argument or sentiment, if it is delivered in a sufficiently sanctimonious or 'right-on' fashion, you will instinctively disagree with it.
This can probably be rephrased more succinctly, but you get the idea.
