I whole-heartedly agree

with this.

\You would have to be a fool to think you could write the "next" book in the series just by aping the writing style and using the same characters. The whole point was the unique perspective Douglas Adams had on the world. This guy should quit now before he humiliates himself.

The thing that proves Eion's a wanker for trying is when he says it's an opportunity to give the characters "something of his own voice." Resulting, I'd guess, in a Eion-Colfer-quasi-Douglas-Adams Arthur Dent bastard child. The idea is tedious simply as a thought, as a reality it'll probably be as unbearable as licking Bette Midler's feet.

Mind you, there are probably people who'd pay money to do that, so I guess there's no mystery as to why the book's being written.
