DVD Savant is my favourite movie review column. Here's an article by its author on the perils of dvd collecting. Book & music lovers may also identify (my space concerns all come from these three things).
Like Erickson, I am still jazzed at the very idea of possessing a copy of a movie. It's now over 20 years since I got my first video tape, and I'll still stoked. Owning an entire tv series can be just as cool - I don't know if I'll ever watch Monty Python's Flying Circus instead, but the 13 year old boy inside of me is still a little excited when I see it sitting on my shelf.
One thing that really thrills me is dvd sets containing multiple versions of the same film: two versions of each of the first three Star Wars movies, three versions of Dawn of the Dead, five versions of Blade Runner, etc. Never mind that I've had the DotD set for 4 years and still haven't watched the "extended cut".
So yay, basically.
