Back on the net to find I didn't miss anything

Was the internet ever really interesting, or was it just novel?

The possibilities are certainly interesting; the majority of the content, however, is probably quite inessential.

That's the problem; the possibilities are endlessly interesting. The actuality tends to run more towards uninformed opinion (or worse - ill-informed opinion) and trivia.

It's only interesting relative to other things I could be doing at the time.

How interesting is the average person? But they are all on line. Yay! Fortunately they're all on MySpace, so who cares? But they all have a voice. As my SO is fond of quoting, "how many times do I have to tell you, democracy does not work!"

That said, I've met a lot of great people and have had a lot of great opportunities thanks to the 'net. It's just getting harder to wade through all the crap. Adding up the dead links and abandoned web pages alone, we have a boatload of detritus (that would be a boat ten times the size of the planet).
