Was the internet ever really interesting, or was it just novel?
Posted by pearce at December 14, 2007 12:08 AMThe possibilities are certainly interesting; the majority of the content, however, is probably quite inessential.
Posted by: billy at December 14, 2007 9:59 AMThat's the problem; the possibilities are endlessly interesting. The actuality tends to run more towards uninformed opinion (or worse - ill-informed opinion) and trivia.
Posted by: Pearce at December 15, 2007 1:05 AMIt's only interesting relative to other things I could be doing at the time.
It regularly disappoints.
Posted by: Janet at December 17, 2007 10:45 PMHow interesting is the average person? But they are all on line. Yay! Fortunately they're all on MySpace, so who cares? But they all have a voice. As my SO is fond of quoting, "how many times do I have to tell you, democracy does not work!"
That said, I've met a lot of great people and have had a lot of great opportunities thanks to the 'net. It's just getting harder to wade through all the crap. Adding up the dead links and abandoned web pages alone, we have a boatload of detritus (that would be a boat ten times the size of the planet).
