is here.
Kaufman founded & runs the notorious grindhouse production company Troma, of Toxic Avenger and Surf Nazis Must Die fame. His movies are dreadful, but the man himself is a lot smarter than he's usually given credit for.
This review of the most disturbing and troubling movie I have ever seen is the best justification for Kaufman's existence I've found.
As enthusiastic as the review is, I doubt it'll make you want to see the movie. Unless you're a complete freak of course.
Posted by pearce at May 23, 2006 4:05 PMNow I understand why Tarn is so enthusiastic about this movie. He loves that kind of thing. Ripping apart giant sea turtles, I mean.
Is this the one that opens with a really long shot from a helicopter moving across the sea, maybe towards an island? If so, that's all I've seen of it.
Posted by: michael at May 23, 2006 5:02 PMIt opens with a really long shot from a helicopter moving across the Amazon, which is REALLY HUGE. I had no idea how big that river is - over 10km wide at some points - the mouth is 330km wide!
I remember having a good conversation with Tarn about the movie at some point. He even convinced me to track down the soundtrack.
That sea turtle bit is quite hard to watch. It's right up there with Georges Franju's abbatoir documentary Blood of the Beasts.
Just for once I'd like to see a movie where the animal deaths are fakes and the human deaths are real.
