Dirty Aucks

We have just spent the last weekend in Auckland, where I was consistently and viciously attacked by mosquitoes. My legs, arms and stomach(!) are now a constellation of bites. A quick note for those of you either in the mood for a surprise or looking to send someone you don't like to Auckland: encourage them to stay at the Aspen House backpackers Boutique Budget Bed and Breakfast on Emily Place. Sure, you might book a double room months in advance, but -- and here's the surprise -- you might just get a twin room instead. And, to add to the thrills, the place might just be booked out for the night (sidenote: why?) so they can't move you. In a nutshell: avoid this place unless you like over-priced backpackers-style accomodation, surly front desk-roids, no air-conditioning and malaria.

On the plus side... no, just kidding. There was no plus side, although Gordon McLauchlan got upset because we moved a traffic cone so a friend had a place to parked while we changed for dinner, and they were filming Power Rangers outside the next day. It's nice to see New Zealand isn't selling itself short as a filming destination.

Hehe. I actually meant to include how our "weekend" in Auckland actually eventuated to around 12 daylight hours:

Saturday 18 March
12:00: Arrive
12:05: Miss Airport-to-City bus
13:05: Catch Airport-to-City bus
14:30: Arrive at "hotel"
14:35: Go to 1pm lunch date
18:00: Pre-dinner drinks
18:15: Turn-up to pre-dinner drinks
19:00: Develop headache
20:00: Go to dinner at Wangthai (highly recommended, btw)
20:30: Develop bleeding nose to accompany headache. Entertained by visions of brain tumours and internal haemorraging; parlay angst into usual dinner witticisms
23:00: Finish dinner; decide against going drinking, instead depart by self back to "hotel"; watch Commonwealth Games; fall asleep

Sunday 19 March
08:00: Think it's 9am; panick; get up, pack, shower
08:45: Realise it's only 8:45 due to daylight savings; relax; watch What Now; realise it is not the same What Now of my childhood
09:00: Leave to Britomart;
09:10: Train to Papakura leaves; we are not on it
09:11: Decide to miss train; have low-rent breakfast in local cafe while locals running in Round The Bays mill around looking lost
09:40: Train to Papakura leave; we are on it;
10:30: Train arrives in Papakura

Dude,suck to be you on the mozzie front. Obviously you have tasty, tasty blood.

Don't you have freinds in Auckland that you could have stayed with. And dodn't say that you don't because I know you do!
